Speeding driver k!lls Okada rider and two passengers in Edo

The victims, a commercial motorcycle rider known as an Okada rider, and his two passengers were killed in a road accident that happened Monday night near the Ogba River bridge in the Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. An eyewitness told Punch on Tuesday that the speeding driver of an SUV lost control and collided with the motorcycle rider, killing him and his passengers.

“The driver of the vehicle lost control and ran over the Okada rider and his passenger. He was at top speed, and it became very difficult for him to control the vehicle when it began to swerve,” the witness said.

Colleagues of the late okada rider took to the streets to protest incessant k!llings occasioned by accidents along the Airport Road, claiming that the driver of the car was into Advance Fee Fraud known locally as Yahoo Yahoo.

One of the protesters, Abdullahi Usman, said the deceased okada rider was their union secretary.

“These Yahoo Yahoo boys do not care about another person on the road. The accident was very severe. It was the Divisional Police Officer at the Estate Police Station who calmed frayed nerves. We are calling on the police to do a thorough investigation and bring the culprit to book,” Usman said.

The spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, Moses Yamu, who confirmed the accident said that an investigation was ongoing.

“I can confirm to you that the accident and the Okada rider and his passenger were k!lled. However, an investigation is ongoing to bring anyone who is liable to justice.”
