Peter Obi votes in the current election for governor of Anambra.

Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State and the Labour Party’s presidential contender in the general election of 2023, fulfilled his civic duty by voting in the current Anambra State governorship election.

Obi joined locals to peacefully take part in the democratic process after arriving at Polling Unit 019, Umudim Akasi, Agulu Ward 8, Anaocha Local Government Area.

Voters went out early to choose the state’s next governor, and security personnel were stationed across the area to assure everyone’s safety.

Obi preaches peace and credibility in the poll

Speaking to journalists shortly after voting, Obi urged citizens to remain peaceful and committed to ensuring a credible and transparent electoral process.

The former governor also called on political leaders to prioritise the interest of the people above personal ambitions, saying democracy thrives when the people’s will is respected.

According to the official list made public by INEC, sixteen candidates are running for the position of governor of Anambra State.

Among them are Jude Ezenwafor (PDP), Chioma Ifemeludike (AAC), Nicholas Ukachukwu (APC), George Nnadubem Moghalu (Labour Party), Ndidi Olieh (NRM), and the current governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo (APGA).

Others are Charles Onyeze (Accord), Geoffrey Onyejegbu (NNPP), Paul Chukwuma (YPP), John Nwosu (ADC), Ifeanyi Iloghalu (ADP), Henry Nwachukwu (SDP), Chibuzor Onwuneme (APM), Francis Eke (ZLP), Nnamdi Umeh (PRP), and Godwin Udegbunam (AA).

The election as one of the most competitive in recent years, with many voters expressing optimism for a peaceful outcome.
