Lady mistakenly paid salary by former employer, hands back money despite being broke

A young Nigerian lady has attracted the attention of social media users after reporting how her former employer unintentionally paid her September salary, despite her having left the job a month earlier.

Though she was in severe need of money, the lady chose to return the full amount, citing her personal principles and conscience as the motivating factor behind her decision.

According to her post on X (formerly Twitter), she wrote:

“My previous workplace mistakenly paid me Sept. salary that I didn’t work for (left August). I needed that money badly! I’m still in dire need of money as I speak, but I had to return it. I contacted the hospital MD immediately. I wasn’t raised to touch things that are not mine.”

Her Honesty Gets Praise Online

The woman posted a screenshot of the reimbursement to support her account and dispel skeptics. She also mentioned that her former employer quickly recognized her honesty and applauded her for her acts.

Many social media users applauded her integrity, with several noting that her decision to prioritize her reputation and conscience over immediate financial gain was inspiring.

She further said: “My image and reputation are precious to me; I can’t tarnish them. Also, my conscience wouldn’t let me be. I can’t ruin my reputation for few thousands that will finish in 1 week.”
