Nigerians were amused when a lecturer at Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI) shared a video of his pupils’ interpretations of his advice to “look corporate.”

The professor, who goes by @badboyy.mo on TikTok, said that he had told his students to wear business attire for a class presentation.

The pupils in the widely shared video showed up dressed in anything but formal attire. Some wore jeans and wrinkled shirts, some wore slippers, and some just belted casual shirts and tucked them into pants.
Both amused and dismayed, the instructor wrote, “Corporate dey weep,” as the title for the video, emphasizing how different their attire was from typical corporate attire.

Online jokes and laughter were instantly triggered by the video. While some readers defended the students by speculating that they might have just made do with what they had, others made fun of the idea that such attire was only appropriate in a polytechnic setting.
