A new era in the country’s defense leadership has begun with President Bola Tinubu’s announcement of significant changes to the senior echelons of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
Mr. Sunday Dare, the President’s Special Advisor on Media and Public Communication, made the announcement in a statement.
Appointment of New Defense Chiefs
General Christopher Musa has been replaced as the new Chief of Defense Staff by General Olufemi Oluyede, the announcement said.
The new Chief of Army Staff is Major-General W. Shaibu, and the new Chief of Air Staff is Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke. Rear Admiral I. Abbas becomes the next Chief of Naval Staff in the Navy.
However, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, the Chief of Defense Intelligence, will continue to hold his existing role.
President Commends Outgoing Officers
President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing Service Chiefs for what he described as their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership” during their tenure.
He urged the newly appointed officers to justify the trust placed in them by serving with honour, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to national unity and security.
The President emphasised that the nation’s armed forces must remain alert, disciplined, and united as they confront emerging security challenges across the country.
Appointments Take Immediate Effect
The statement confirmed that all the new appointments take immediate effect.
Analysts view this development as part of President Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the security architecture and enhance coordination among the nation’s military services.

Man pours acid on wife, runs away as police launch manhunt in Edo

The Edo State Police are searching for a man named Timothy Gilbert who is accused of hurting his girlfriend, Angela Ogah, who is 40 years old. The attack is said to have taken place in Ihovbe Quarters, which is in the Ikpoba Hill area of Benin City.
According to reports, Gilbert poured a dangerous substance on Ogah during an argument and then ran away from the place.
Police confirm investigation
Speaking on Wednesday in Benin, the command’s spokesperson, CSP Moses Yamu, confirmed that officers are actively searching for the suspect.
He appealed to members of the public to provide credible information that could help locate Gilbert, stressing that cooperation is crucial to the investigation.
According to Yamu, the couple had been involved in repeated disputes linked to allegations of infidelity, which escalated into a confrontation before the attack.
Authorities warn against domestic violence
Yamu advised people experiencing relationship challenges to seek peaceful solutions and walk away from tense situations rather than resort to violence.
He stated that no emotional relationship should lead to harm, noting that the command remains committed to tackling domestic-related offences in the state.
Victim receiving treatment
Ogah is currently being treated at a private medical facility, where her condition is reported to be critical but under close supervision.
Her lawyer, John Izegaegbe, has submitted a formal petition to the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika.
He called for urgent action to ensure the suspect is apprehended and brought to justice without delay.
Residents of the community expressed shock over the incident, describing it as disturbing and unacceptable.
The police have assured the public that efforts to track down Gilbert are ongoing, and further updates will be communicated as the investigation progresses.

To express her faith, she wore a full wedding gown during the praise session and prayed while dressed like a bride.

The Hallelujah Challenge, hosted by gospel minister Nathaniel Bassey, is a praise and prayer programme followed by thousands online.Many participants usually hold symbolic items such as baby clothes, keys, work materials and even wedding outfits while praying for something specific as an act of faith.

According to Lucy, her prayer didn’t take long to manifest. She shared a video on TikTok showing that she is now officially married.
After she posted the update, many social media users also shared their own experiences from previous Hallelujah Challenge sessions.
Some said they also received answers to long-standing prayers, while others congratulated her and used her story as motivation to keep believing.
